About
Progressive Life Center
History
The Progressive Life Center was
founded in 1983, by Dr. Frederick Phillips.
The first program, with five staff, provided an array of
community based services to adjudicated African American youth and
their families in Washington, D.C.; the focus was on meeting their
mental health needs from a cultural and spiritual based approach.
PLC is today working in the District of Columbia; Baltimore,
MD; Prince George’s County, MD; Montgomery County, MD; Philadelphia,
PA; Wilmington, DE; and Accra, Ghana to help individuals and families
recognize and maximize their inner resources and strengths, enhance
their relationships, and function harmoniously in the broader
environment.
PLC is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit
organization and is licensed as a child placement agency in the State
of Maryland, District of Columbia, State of Delaware, and the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; further PLC is accredited by the Council
on Accreditation.
In 23 years of service, PLC
has developed a rich tapestry of behavioral and mental health services
combining core principles of ancient African worldview with Western
techniques of humanistic psychology targeting troubled young people
and families.
