INTERNSHIPS

Progressive Life Center offers practicum, externship, and internship placements to students pursuing degrees in human services fields of study. PLC welcomes conscientious students in social work, psychology, mental health, rehabilitative counseling, criminal justice and other related disciplines. Students are accepted for training at the bachelor, masters and doctoral levels depending on the needs of the student and agency’s ability to accommodate those needs.

Students are provided with an in-depth clinical experience that includes:

  1. Weekly individual and/or group supervision;

  2. Provision of direct services (individual, family and group counseling or psychotherapy) to target populations;

  3. Participation in case/service conferencing and planning; and

Training in the NTU Approach to Psychotherapy and Human Service Delivery.

Depending on the program emphasis of the students, rotations in research, program evaluation, program development, and special projects are available.

PLC sponsors a Student Placement Orientation in late March or early April. This is designed to provide the agency, students and faculty advisors the opportunity to explore the match between themselves and the agency in terms of needs and resources. Individual interviews with program directors can be scheduled after formal presentations on each program and service.

To apply for the internship program click here to email Dr. Tracy Garrett, Chief Clinical Officer, or call at (202) 349-8900, Ext. 1225.
